Different toolholder systems are used on the Wirtgen mining drums. The standard drum fitted with the quick-change toolholder systems HT11 or HT7 is suitable for application in soft rock, while operations in harder materials are carried out more profitably with the welded toolholder system HT6.
The quick-change toolholders of this system consist of a bottom part that is rigidly welded onto the drum body and an upper part that is fastened to the bottom part by a retaining bolt. The upper parts accommodate cutting tools that rotate freely in the tool shaft during the cutting operation.
The robust HT7 quick-change toolholder system is the “heavy-duty” variety of the HT11 system. This system features larger bottom parts, reinforced upper parts, and larger fits for accommodating the mining tools.
The hallmarks of these systems include:
The holders of the HT6 toolholder system are rigidly welded onto the drum body. The cutting tools rotate freely in the holders during the cutting operation. They can be replaced quickly and easily after removal of the locking ring. This heavy-duty toolholder system has been designed for the tremendous peak loads that may occur when cutting irregular rock formations.
Please consult Parts and More for additional information on these and any other Wirtgen toolholder systems.
Using cutting tools of top quality that are specially adapted to both the mining operation and the machine, the 2500 SM achieves top production rates at low tool wear and tear.
The cutting tool tips are subject to tremendous loads during the cutting operation, which is why they are made from particularly wear-resistant carbide metal.
The steel body enclosing the tool tip is divided into two zones: The tool head is particularly hard and highly wear-resistant, while the shaft is tougher and more break-resistant. The different degrees of hardness in the tool head and shaft guarantee optimum properties during the entire tool life.
We recommend the use of special tools for the applications of the 2500 SM:
